The DotComDoctor service is an addition to the private GP service provided by Kingsbridge Private Hospital Belfast.

DotComDoctor undertake to deliver an online consultation with a UK registered medical practitioner to deal with and treat your medical condition with the option of an onward private referral or electronic prescription to your local pharmacy within Northern Ireland.


Privacy and security

Our company complies with the Data Protection Act 1998. We will use the information you provide with other information we obtain about you to administer and provide the goods and/or services you request. We will not share your personal information with any organisation other than those directly involved in delivering these services e.g. dispensing pharmacy.

In particular, please note that, as stated in our Privacy Policy, with your consent and provided you provide us, in writing, with the name and address for your GP, we will always offer to inform your GP of any consultations/medicines that our doctors prescribe. However, please note that in certain situations, even if you opt out, we may need to contact a healthcare professional, social services or the emergency services without your consent. This includes but is not limited to situations where we have significant concerns about your health and/or wellbeing; or where this is otherwise required by law.

DotComDoctor uses security technology, including firewalls and Secure Socket Layers to protect information submitted through this website and has procedures in place to ensure paper and computer systems and databases are protected against unauthorised disclosure, use, loss and damage. Nevertheless, electronic transmissions are never completely private or secure and there is a risk, therefore, that any electronic communications sent may be intercepted and potentially read by others. You should, therefore, ensure that any computer, device or telephone you use to access your online patient record is suitably protected from potential interception.


Our commitment to you

The role of the telemedicine GP is to assess you and provide a diagnosis, where possible and recommend treatment as appropriate.

The telemedicine consultation will take place under the same GMC guidance as if the remote telemedicine consultant was face-to face with you. Your privacy and dignity will be ensured.

Confidentiality of the consultation will be maintained. Obtaining informed consent for your treatment will be performed sympathetically, giving you and relatives reasonable time to ask questions. The consultation will be in-line with GMC guidance in Good Medical Practice.

You can choose whether you would like us to inform your GP. However, in exceptional circumstances the doctor may need to contact your GP in your best interests.

We would advise you to keep your own GP well-informed of any treatment and medication you receive via the DotComDoctor.

In the event a prescription is required then you will need to nominate a pharmacy, within Northern Ireland, and provide a telephone number for this pharmacy.

The GP will contact the nominated pharmacy by telephone and email/fax prescription details to this pharmacy so that prescriptions should be ready to pick up within a timely manner.

GPs will not prescribe controlled drugs. If necessary you will be advised to visit your regular GP so that your medication and condition can be monitored.

There may be an additional charge for private prescriptions which is dependent on medication prescribed and pharmacy charges when you attend to pick up the prescription.

In the event of the service running late we will attempt to contact you by telephone to let you know the waiting time.


Your commitments when using DotComDoctor

You must be over the age of 18 to use the DotComDoctor service

You should not register or complete questionnaires on behalf of anyone other than yourself.

You are responsible for ensuring that you are in a private and secure area to maintain your confidentiality.

In the event of you requiring a diagnostic test you will be asked to attend Kingsbridge for the test to be undertaken. Diagnostic tests will be charged on top of the consultation fee however, the GP will be able to give you an approximate cost of the required tests during your consultation so you can make the choice whether to attend at Kingsbridge or your own GP.

You must ensure that no-one other than yourself has access to any medicines that we make available to you.

If you decline our offer to share information with your GP, you should still notify your GP of any medicines that we have prescribed.  If you decide not to notify your GP, it is important that you keep a record of any medicines that we have prescribed. However, please note that in an emergency situation, we may need to contact a healthcare professional, social services or the emergency services without your consent, even where you have declined any of our offers to contact your GP.

As with all medicines do not use beyond the expiry date and should you suffer from any side effects, you should seek medical attention either from your own GP, the Dot Com Doctor service or in exceptional circumstances Emergency Department.

In the event of the GP not starting your telemedicine appointment at the designated time please remain in the virtual waiting room, if you log off you may not be able to re-join. If we are running late we will endeavour to contact you using your phone details.

We reserve the right to terminate an appointment if the consultation becomes abusive or the GP feels that there is an intention to obtain excessive medication.


When not to use DotComDoctor

DotComDoctor is not suitable for acute medical emergencies or situations that require immediate attention. Here are some examples:

  • Chest pain
  • Severe bleeding
  • Severe difficulty in breathing (shortness of breath)
  • Sudden, severe pain anywhere in the body
  • Moderate to severe burns
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • Sudden change in mental status (such as unusual behaviour, confusion, difficulty waking from sleep)
  • Head or spinal injuries
  • Serious limb impairment or broken bone
  • You have harmed yourself or have plans to end your life

It is not possible to cancel your appointment online and once booked the appointment is NOT refundable.

Payments and Refunds

Payments are made through a secure third party partner and it will take approximately 7 working days for the funds to reach our account. Refunds are at the discretion of the service provider and will be refunded by cheque within 30 days and not before the funds have reached our accounts.
